I was just studying the results from this event, they finished 14th after a broken rear beam slowed them near the end after 6th overall on SS1, sounds like a respectable result considering problems.

Been watching you in this today down pembrey, it's looks a right little animal! Gearing sounds long mind if it's still a 4.4?

Ahh you should have defo had a chat!! I love talking to people about BMW's!!! It seams to especially raise a load of interest at events as people love the thought of cheap RWD! Although this car has now cost an escorts value! I still wouldn't swap!

Joint 6th o/a in 1st stage
10th in 3rd stage and first in class still....

On 4th stage we had a bad noise on the back and thought it was the shaft.... Took it steady and went into pits and found play in both side CV joints so thought it was that!!!

But I'm guessing it was a cracked rear beam which we didn't notice!!

Soon into the next stage it went really bad and now knowing the rear axle beam cracked in half!!!

How we finished I will never know. 1 bolt and shock holding one side of the rear end on!!! Nursed it back and got 14th o/a and 4th in class but them last 2 stages took 2nd in class and top 10 away from us...

Well done with bringing it home with that damage! Yeah if I stayed longer I'd have come back for a chat and some a dice on bits, I had to be back early for more beer socialising in the festive spirit il keep an eye out for next events and come and say hi! I just picked up a yellow compact but my budget will only allow me to do the little Motokahna events

its not hard to see why that failed, the strength of any beam is in its depth.
with the compacts bigger wheels exhaust clearance isn't an issue, if you have a big exhaust oval the pipe or run twins.

Obvious weak point but shame it gave up when it did, good result all the same! I can see why people try to get the exhaust high but it's old skool and not really needed when us bmw folk get to run Big wheels! A diff skid is a better option and should help on roughest venues.

Yes, from what I can gather from those pics, it looks like far too much has been chopped out of the beam and what remained hadn't been re-strengthened sufficiently to put back anything like its original strength. (and they don't look like they're very strong in the first place, certainly not as beefy as a Sierra beam)

That's a cheating way to drain the Diff oil! Ha ha I'm sure you fix it quick enough and be back out with the Escorts!! As for Escort values, they have gone mental now with a few out there well over 100k with engine builds easily costing 20,30,40k so stick with your compact

Bloke who fabricated the exhaust up cut the beam...

I'm going to solid mount it, strut brace and bolt it via the boot

And twin ear diff cover!

The back end isn't breaking again

Any feedback????? Just want a bit of adjustment to fine tune it all especially to compensate for any damaged bits!

2015 Tour of Epynt 61st overall, 9th class (terrible day, wrong tyres, first full epynt and car got hit beding axle beam etc)
2015 Rali Cwm Gwendraeth 9th overall, 3rd in class

2014 WWRS Jaffa Stages 14th overall, 2nd in class
2014 Peter Lloyd Rallying Stages 10th Overall, 3rd in class
2014 Promenade Stages Rally Retired (3 lap stage on stage 8 and we came in early!! so went home
2014 Brawdy Stages 13th o/a 3rd class
2014 Mini Epynt Stages 46th o/a 10th class (car cut out on 1st bed after a relay coming out! lost over 6 minutes!)
2014 AGBO Stages 22nd o/a 10th class
2014 Rali Cwm Gwendraeth - 40th o/a 8th class (went off in to mud/water and lost a few minutes)

2013 WWRS Jaffa Stages - 14th 0/a 5th class (after a broken rear beam or would have won class and top 10 easy)
2013 Peter Lloyd Rallying Stages - Retired (broken shaft, last stage)
2013 FMP Rally Challenge Brawdy Stages - 34 overall 5th class (cut off broke, car overheated, hit bale! 1st event though)


LOTS AND LOTS has changed with the car over the 2 years.. I will get posting some more info very soon
