the engine is on the move! been working out the wiring harness today, what to cut and what needs adding. going to get some cams ordered next week for it from cat cams.
i keep getting the urge to put a six cylinder in there but i still think it would spoil it.
also a possible first event has been talked about in may as an aim point to get it ready for. a mate of mine has just registered his ex works mk2 escort for the historic championship and the first event for him is the i.o.m. would love to gatecrash that one!

nothing really to report at the minute, been so busy at work that i have not really done much on it. all the boring jobs are getting done at the moment. myself and a mate are going to have a few hours on trimming the wiring loom down on saturday.
the only other thing i have done is taken a dash cluster apart to mount seperate racetech guages a bit like the prodrive cars had. ill post some pics soon to try and keep it interesting!!

oh, i think you cant do that for road rallying, i think it has to keep the original trim etc, but not 100% sure.

its been a while since i updated my build diary, not loads to report really. been doing all the boring bit like cleaning up parts and slowly remembering where it all goes!
i have moved the car from work to down home so i can spend some time on it during the dark evenings!

Hi, just looking at the photos of your e30.
Could you please tell me if you had the fuel tank made, or is it a shaped escort tank.

hi steve, its actually a tank i had made, very simular to an escort tank although the wheel well is offset in an e30.
some people use escort tanks if you flatten the boot floor off, i cut the spare wheel well and put a 16" ford focus boot floor section into it so i can carry two forest tyres still.
the tank also tapers down at the back to follow the shape of the back seat panel. the company who made it for me did it for the same price of a mk2 tank

Thanks for reply mate, sorry for delay as I've only just seen it.
Got a temporary tank in my e30 at moment, it gets me through single venue events.
I intend taking the car into the forest so was looking at a solution when I saw your build. Thanks for advice mate

Hi Adam, sorry for late reply, not been to good. Yeah would be great if you could get the lads details for tank. Do you use your car in the forest. If so what spring rates are you using, Plus do you know what spring rates are used for tarmac mate. I've tried to get mine tested but with no luck. Any info would be most welcome.

my aim over christmas is to get the loom finished and fitted, dashboard in and custom dash cluster fitted.
then a dry fit of engine and gearbox to remind myself of where everything fits!

Been slowly making progress with the car, and I mean slow! However I now have a firm deadline as the wife is pregnant and is due at the end of june.
This means one thing that I need to get the car finished!
I have been pondering on engine choices, I am tempted to go for a 6 cylinder of some sort, maybe an m20b25 to keep within the new changes of years accepted in the historic championship. Or continue with the m42 route as ive already bought quite a few parts to build up a stroker engine. My reservations on this are they are a bit of an unknown as to what sort of power and torque these are good for against outlay of costs and im also thinking of overall value of the car when finished.
Its really crying out for an s14 if anyone has one they wanted to do a deal on! Bruvs??

Comments or ideas welcome, car is 80% finished and need to make up my mind to get the thing turning its own wheels.
