E30 M42 2.1 Stage/Road rally car

Its about time i started a build diary of my e30, it going to be used for stage and road rallying eventually hence the reason for using an m42 engine.
Having had a bit of a shunt in my previous e30 its time to crack on with this project, its just come back from blasting and there is still a few little repairs to do, then its time for paint hopefully.

The cage was done at a place called tornado motorsport. i have altered a couple of bits on it though.
the engine will be an overbored/stroked m42. all the bits are at the engineers,including an 88mm crank ouut of an m47 and some 87mm pistons on the way from je pistons. watch this space for further updates

Been a bit slow with updates and have only been making slow progress on my car due to work commitments etc. I have been slowly getting all the bodyshell seem welding and any repairs that have needed to be done. I have trying to get all holes that needed to be drilled and captive nuts for any fixings sorted before any paint. This week i have managed to get all the loose ends sorted and etch primered any bare metal. Today i have re-sealed any areas that needed doing then stone chipped the undeneath and arches. Hoping to get the underneath painted during the week, followed by in the boot and engine bay.

raising the wheel well also helps with maintenance and cleaning - good move

any progress on the m42?

No real progress with the engine as such yet. i think the guy who does my engine work is a bit snowed under lately. im hoping to go and see him soon as i am going to get some cams ordered from cat cams and do a trial build on the head.Been looking at events to pencil in as a target to get it finished for. Really pleased that im nearly done with all the shell prep as i cant wait to see it shiny so i can start building it up!

No worries mate, nearly give you a call when i was over your way the other week but ran out of time as normal!
Hopefully going to paint it all underneath tomorrow ill let lee and austin do the top half.

Right, had a busy day yesterday prepping the boot and underneath finished and ready for primer. managed to get a few good coats on the engine bay and in the boot.
Then spun it itside down and got a good coat of primer done underneath. The plan was to let it dry then paint it in the arches and underneath , but on opening the tin of paint it was totally the wrong shade.
That was that so called it a day till one night in the week hopefully!?
had a run across to mallory park today to have a spectate, 3 beemers were out and sliding around on the snow! had a quick catch up with sunbmw who was servicing for two mk1 escorts which were flying!

Had a productive day yesterday got the high build primer flatted in the engine bay and in the boot.it was then time for some paint! Paintef underneath the car first then rolled it over to do the engine bay. pretty happy with it really only a couple of runs in total.

Been really busy recently due to work etc. however last week the shell stood on its wheels for the first time in over two years! to be pushed into the body shop next door for paint. watch this space!
