Tarmac e30 getting xe power!!

Well, i have been asking lots of questions so i thought i would show a few pics of my first rally car!

Its a £400 325i sport AUTO!! with 70k, don't worry, the auto box is on the list of things to change!

Anyway, here is the back of it



The first problem to sort was the big hole next the the throttle pedal



I cleaned it off and treated the rust then made a patch for it, i still need to weld it in though...



There was also a hole in the roof where someone had fit an areal, i cleaned this up and welded a patch in, be nice its the first patch i have ever done



Next we welded in the back part of the mission that is an omp cage







And the other job my co-driver has completed is removing the sound dedaning...



you don't think there is much of this untill you weigh it in a bag!



Thats it for now, this weekend we are gonna weld in the front of the cage and that patch!

Well, i didn't actually weigh it but it broke the bag and easily felt about 10kg.....

did you get all the tar out of the doors and rear quarters too?

I looked at the rear quarters but i didn't want to end up denting the panels, i may have a go at the doors at some time because they are very very heavy!

alan1272 I thought i would post this up to give you an idea how to make it work because it certainly is not the simplest thing i have ever done!

I decided to take the approach of welding it then bolting it, i think it made the fitting allot easier!

Use a cheap heat gun or hair dryer on the inside and it should help bring off the square tar pads on the door/quarter insides without forcing the scraper. Was it another 3kilos bro' ?

Its how far you want to go really If you want to loose some more weight, fit the normal 316/318 bumpers with some chopped down bumper iron brackets. You'll see what i mean when you take your bumpers off. If you are not bothered about looks that mtec2 stuff is surplus to requirement esp. the heavy boot spoiler.

You'll know when you have done enough - you'll need shorter springs

I was going to use a heat gun on it but i was worried about damaging the paint from the inside.........

I am tempted to do the bumpers but i love the look of the sport bumpers...... not sure what i should do!

I'd definately keep the bumpers - I'm sure you could lose a lot of weight from them by stripping everything unnecessary. I'd also keep the rear spoiler - light weight isn't everything - you want the car to look good when you win

to be safe tris id keep the tar on the inside of the quarters last thing you want to do is burn the paint on the outside and end up having to paint them aswell. def keep all the tech 2 kit aswell. the spoilers makes a big difference. i tried to do a top speed run when it just had the lower part of the tech2 spoiler on and i had to back off at 140 on the clock cause it was all over the place. put the whole spoiler on. and it was much more settled on the rear. managed to get it all the way to the limter in 5th wich is 7k on mine with the chip, wich is around 155 on the clocks. dont know what that is in real speed but id estimate probably 140mph wich aint bad.

im probably keeping the carpet in mine aswell. did yours have seperate sound deading or is it part of the carpet?

yeh its in my back garden it is possible on a couple of roads though.

you don't need much heat with the gun to get the tar off, done a few cars this way and never damaged the outside, remember it's painted in 2 pack, its tough stuff!! mtech2 stuff weighs a ton, especially the bumpers! get some facelift bumpers they are alot lighter, oh and mike, get your speedo re calibrated your only kidding yourself if you think you got 155 out of a 325!! did you have to use a parachute to stop you falling in the sea?
