with the first decent weather for months i've finally got round to doing some work on my IS. i took the dash out to see what would be needed to fit the cage, an OMP 6 point.


i'm slightly unsure why the main hoop feet sit here but the rest of it seems to line up.



looks like i'll have to make some towers for the feet to reach the floor. i can't understand why OMP changed the design on these cages as the older ones that i've seen have a front section that clears the dash and goes to the floor .




rear doesn't mount to the strongest part in the car either; big spreader plates methinks.


anyone have any hints on where to relocate the ECU to?

Is it because the front section is welded, enabling you to weld around the top of the joints? Were the previous ones bolted together on the front section?

get all that black tar soundproofing scraped out, it weights a s*#tload!! i think theres about 5-6 kg of the stuff on the floors, doors and rear panels

yeah it's on the list, i've already done underneath the rear and passenger seat .

i tend to take lots of pics but my progress is usually painfully slow

That is a slightly different design to our cage but you have got it too high at the front i.m.o.. The front does go in low with the omp bolt in cage. pm me your e-mail address and i'll mail you some photos that may help. I think you will still be building up to the baseplates though .

I have spent the last few weekends fitting the same cage, you will need to build some towers for the middle, some of the metal they send well do but you will need more!

The front mounts i am yet to do but it looks as though yours are about an inch too high, they won't reach the floor without bending the cage so you have to build towers for that too.

Oh and i also built some big spreaders for the rear mounts....

Why would OMP make a cage that doesn't fit? Seems very odd.

i think the front section has to be like that because otherwise it wouldn't fit in through the door, it was a real battle as it is.

the blocks underneath the front legs are slighly too high as some of you have rightly pointed out.

been there ,went to the eye hospital, and now i wear safety specs(most the time) looks like a nice quiet residential area hope it was a sunday morning job

hahaha when i was fitting mine last weekend we started at 9 on sunday morning!

Another to watch out for is those bits that fly off the wire brush that you fit to the drill. They hide in your clothes and stick in to you when you are crawling about.

I got one in my side (love handles ) Went to a+e. Can see it on the Xray but couldn't find it once they sliced me open So I still have it plus a very tender hole in my side

Done the bits in the eye twice now (w#nka)
