just mopping up some drool!! engine looks well back, presume its dry sumped then? still looks very fresh, nice!! are they keeping it on 17"s ?

Its done 2 or 3 rallies over in Ireland since being built at Hockleys 2 yrs ago, It is actually running 18" x 8" rims all round, next time its on the ramp at Cliff's i will take some photo's underneath, and if you think this is clean you should have seen his Escort !!!

We were showed most the parts whilst we were at Hockleys, but we didnt see a fully assembled car, so your photos complete the picture
Theres a lot of very bespoke parts there, that s14 motor has an unusual intake too.
Does Cliff have any engine data for it, its not uncommon for a strong 2.5 with a lot of race components to do over 275 at the wheels

he's going to have fun getting it through noise with one box on the exhaust ineresting stuff, no roll bars?

Cliff has his own noise meter, and we tested it yesterday inside the unit so it will give a louder reading due to the echo !!! @ 5000rpm with the clutch out it read 97db and with clutch in it read 92db !!! We know of guys with Escorts that put noise jackets round there gearboxes to go through noise at scrutineering then remove at the start !!! The exhaust is a work of art mind the manifold has primer pipes that are 50mm (2") Dia straight off the head !!! & the system is actually 76mm (3") Dia which goes into the one Simpson box (whole exhaust made by Simpson) which is 100mm Dia (4") and approx 16" long

As for no roll bars, thats exactly the same prinicible as Manta's and Chevette's !!! With a Chevette you just remove it totally and up the poundage of the springs to compensate and with a Manta the works 400's had a really small dia front arb just to aid slightly. If you don't do this both suffer badly with understeer into corners !!! Thus i take it, it may be the same with these use pukka Proflex up-rights to compensate etc BUT neither i or Cliff can varify coz ive not done owt with my compact and he has'nt used this one yet either so its gonna be a big learning curve ???

The intake has an 8 injector set up 1st 4 come in low down and the 2nd set situated at the back of the intake near the filter end kick in at approx 4500rpm - 5000rpm with such a kick it is un-real and Cliff reckons this is one thing he wants to definetly try and iron out with maybe a re-map so its more torquey and thus has a lot smoother power curve, he does have a Dyno sheet for an engine rebuild as it blew the bottom end on its 1st rally showing well over the 300bhp mark @ 8200rpm (it revs well over that) so yeah i reckon 275 @ the wheels would be a conservative estimate

We set-up our sunbeam with no roll-bars and won a 1600 championship in it, but its rare to see a modern car set-up like that. Bruvs1 is not implying it doesnt work, we were only recently looking at Simon Maugers Mk2 that has them F+R for tarmac. Understeer shouldnt be an issue and I suspect its a case of just not getting round to the design, as theres a lot going on in those areas.

The aggressiveness could be partially cam dependant, bmw spent $$ designing race/rally/endurance engines that could be bought in kit form out of a catalogue. All BMW Motorsport cams are long duration and i'm lead to believe Prodrive only adjusted cam timing and mapping. Exhaust Ports are huge on S14's and 50mm Stainless headers come standard

Now the main question, when is the first event? Cliff must have something in mind

Cliff was hoping to get out at Ty Croes a week next Sunday ...... BUT i think that a bit optimistic to be honest as he still has to get the car log booked in the UK, and there are still some niggling issue's with the car he isn't happy with as he is a perfectionist when comes to the rally cars etc BUT i will let everyone know when and where etc i think he may go out on a track day to get used to it 1st and adjust various suspension settings etc at Ty Croes before entering an event with it to get it right etc

I think that is a good approach, as you say Cliff has a lot of `trickery' to get to know and i'm sure he'll enjoy it.
