Spoke to custom cages today and i've gone for a Club cage with added bars so i can pick up front turrets, x door bars and rear diff pick up etc. Will do most of the build at my pals farm so im glad the weathers getting better!!
Could be a slowish build as i was hoping to be at this years Jim Clark in it but work and a family death have put things back somewhat, i'll be there but in my golf gti.
Need a bit of help diff wise tho, can i put a m3 lsd in a 188 rear diff housing?? Lots of cheap m3 lsd diffs about but in not sure if the lsd part can be fitted to other diffs.
Im stripping the car out this weekend so will post pics as im going along

How did you get images up?? Im not the brightest at computer stuff  !!

Yeah should be good when its done, im looking to put on z3 arms on the rear like the bro's build and a hockley bodykit to cover the wheels but that could depend on budget just now and time scale, im looking to crack on and build it for this years jim clark...less than 3 months away!! I've managed to con!! my work into some sponsorship so it will be all hands on deck to get it done and out asap!!

Compact is all bare shell now and off to get a cage fitted at Geronimo Cages in Hartlepool next week, he will do what i want fully welded in for less than the price of a good bolt in cage. Will take plenty of pictures when its back as i know cages are the biggest problem with compacts and he seems to know his stuff and his work looks really good from what i've seen.
Seats, belts, fire eater, electrical stuff all on order now and will be here this week so when the shells back it will be all hands on deck to start the build in earnest!!
Still not sure over the Hockley bodykit, its alot of money to wipe out off a gatepost but at least the bits are all for sale as single items
Can anyone give me any pointers towards front and back suspension?? I have'nt a huge budget but have access to an engineering shop at work.I was going to modify the 328i front struts i have into coilovers, what inserts can i get or modify to give me a decent set up to start with?
As for the rear, do E30 dampers fit a compact? And i've no idea on spring rates either but prefer a fairly stiff set up

328 struts dont have a removeablle insert, I would recommend the GAZ Kit for the e36, its not cheapest but one of the best value for money, cheap suspension on these cars just isnt worth it im afraid

I need a bit of a pointer if anyone can help me here??
My compact is a 1998 R plate, it had a chipped key and transponder fitted, the M3 lump i've brought is from a non ews car 1994 i believe. Will i need anything extra to make it run or does the transponder part on my car run separate to the engine loom??
Also the wiring loom side of things, the car had elec windows, central locking, elec mirrors etc- can all these "extras" be safely cut out without harming the running of the car?? The looms a nightmare as most of you know already, i don't want to chop out wires i will need later on!! im going to cut out all the radio wires, rear window stuff etc, im just not sure when you get up front what stays and what goes!!
The cage is thro to the front struts, whats the best plan with the fuse box being moved??
Many thanks in advance chaps 8)

PM me with your email address mate- I have an excel spreadsheet of all the connections you need to make - mine is a non-ews 3.0 in an T-plate ex M44 318ti (EWS3).

Yours is likely EWS2 but most holds good. The EWS module is fixed to the sheet metal above the drivers right knee (remove the lower dash cover to get to it).

Essentially you do away with the transponder element of the EWS system and have to short two of the wires at the EWS connector to dis-interrupt the feed to the ECU. For EWS2 it's pins 1 and 3 that get connected, while for EWS3 it's pins 7 and 8. For a super-tidy install I got an EWS3 module from a scrappy, gutted the circuit board out of it, and connected the correct pins inside, then put it all back together and installed it. No scotchloks for me! 8)

Hope this helps.

So far as moving the fuse box goes, one option is to dismantle it, drag the wiring and the fuse/relay holders inside, and then rebuild it inside the cabin (it will go where the glove box was), extending only the engine bay connectors through the bulkhead. Another route that I have seen is to move it towards the centre so that it occupies the space usually taken by the header tank. You can then fit the header tank behind the nearside headlamp in the same way that it is fitted in the later e30 diesel turbo models.
