most European cars from the 80s do iirc, certainly haven't read/heard otherwise for e30s, m10 might be a possible 4 star engine but you'll have a m20 in that thing so should be fine.

I've just checked my BMW E30 handbook and it states that Catalyst-equipped (petrol ) cars must run on Unleaded regular fuel to DIN 51 607 standard or equivalent, minimum octane number 91 (RM).
Cars without catalytic convertor can run on leaded or unleaded fuel, minimum octane number 91 (RM).
