M52 2.8 Compact Stage Rally Car (previously 4age/XE )

(My original plan was to put an MR2 engine in the compact. I later decided to install a Vauxhall XE red top instead and finally settled upon the BMW M52 )


Just to be totally different I am looking into the pro's and cons of fitting an MR2 engine (1.6 4 age) into a Compact, running on Yamaha R1 bike carbs and mated to a Ford rocket (4 speed) gearbox.

Got the Compact - got the engine - got the box - got the carbs - got the enthusiasm (at the moment) all I need now is a magic wand to put them all together.

I like a challenge!!!!

136 BHP? Direct top C/R box and a 4.44 diff with 15" rims.

That's why I was asking. Have you got a bell housing? (I might know of a Corolla/Ford bell housing.)

I'm pretty sure it is as the 1.6 corolla GT had the 4age engine. But the gearbox side of the BH will be different i.e. Ford fitting.

My mate did one in his MK1 Escort. That was a Corolla bh but used a steel adaptor plate to mate it to the ford box.

You can get a Toyota to Ford bh new - but q. expensive. I'm still researching.

My mate ran an AE86 with type 9 Tranx, he still had the bell housing last I knew, which is why I was asking.

I can find out if he's still got it, if you'd be interested.

Yes please Simon and in the meantime I will check the AE86 bolt pattern. Pretty sure they are the same.

Shown me arse The AE86 uses the 4age

I was thinking the AE86 was an engine type - d'oh
