BMW E30 M3 Rally Car.
Built from damaged /repairable 1988 Cecotto which had been at the back of someones garage for 3 Years.
I bought the car for £2000 pounds in march 2007 after deciding to have a change from a post historic spec 2002tii which I had run for the last 10years. I also rallied a group N spec E30 325I in 1987 and 88.
Car was stripped down to a bare shell , jigged and painted professionaly, then returned to my single garage for completion in time for the Colin Mcrae stages in October.07.
2008 we did all 7 forestry rounds of the Scottish championship, finishing all 7, winning the over 2 litre 2WD class and finishing 9th 2wd overall.
Basic spec of car is as follows:
E30M3 Cecotto shell converted to RHD using dash ,loom and pedal box from e30 320I
Standard 215bhp engine with modified exhaust manifold for RHD ( the most difficult part of the RHD conversion), and homemade 2 ½” single box exhaust system
Standard 5 speed dogleg box with quickshift, 4.45:1 uprated LSD.
Front suspension- standard front struts converted to coilovers with 250lb springs and Group N bilstein race inserts .Z3 2.7steering rack on M3 crossmember with RS2000 engine mounts.
Rear- Standard M3 rear springs with Gp4 escort Bilsteins, Plastic rear beam and wishbone bushes
Brakes- Standard front and rear discs, 635i front calipers,Hydraulic handbrake and bias pedal box with servo and abs removed.
Interior-Sparco bolt in cage , 6pt sabelt belts Sabelt seats, lifeline extinquishers.10 gall alloy tank in boot
The car is pretty much group N spec and is very heavy but has been totally reliable and great fun to drive.
This years plan is more Scottish events and a few improvements to the car especially brakes , weight reduction and a bit more power . I’m on the lookout for a carbon fibre airbox and alpha-n setup

Hi Donald & welcome to the forum....Great to see another E30M3 for rallying...
 I have built my E30M3 over the past 2 years, specifically for tarmac...hoping to get out sometime Mar/Apr.

Seen this car a few times. In fact I used to compete against you when you had the 2002 and had my old mk1 escort in the historics. I have just bought a Compact rolling shell which I am in the process of fitting an engine/box to ( see debate under cars for sale section).
Think I seen you out on the Colin Mcrae stages in september, car looked well.

More action piccies would be nice.
No offence taken DOB december 1953 which hopefully still leaves you top or bottom of the pile depending how one views it
