After years of reaching down to the tunnel to pull the handrake Jonny had been struggling to adjust to his new vertical lever . Originally it was a bit short and not obvious to spot, we were going to relocate it, we had a think between us and decided to chop it in half and lengthen it so it was level with the top of the dash - this makes it permanently visible and closer to the steering wheel. A simple splice was made with bolts tightly drilled and its still properly rigid

Put some yellow tape on so it stands out too, just for m3compact - i know he likes stickers

It took me a while to get used to vertical levers, but I wouldn't go back now. (I use it far too much. )

Very pleased with the mod on the lever and hope I don't have a repeat of my IOM Sartfield Hairpin blunder when we go to Epynt in 2 weeks time.

M44 engine will be going in the scrap pile

Just finished stripping the 1.6 M43 engine down and the crank and rods are perfect (considering the engine had been left outside with no head on it) Nose of the crank is exactly the same as the M44 engine and I know the front sprocket and bolt is the same as the M42, so looking like the 1.6 M42 is a starter with some high compression pistons Just need some ITB's to get more air/fuel in and I reckon we'll have a touch more power whilst dropping into the smaller class

The mod on the handbrake lever worked great

Need to take the clutch out and maybe machine the flywheel to get a bit of extra clamping pressure from the cover before its next event as it didn't take kindly to dumping it off the line

M42 head as it's already been worked on and has some nice CatCams fitted

The con-rods and crank are in far better condition than I'd expected and only needs a regrind on the thrust bearing face of the crank before being lightened and balanced

The 1600 project is now needing a set of high compression pistons to be made as I don't think there is a standard OE piston available.

Not sure yet, as it does seem a shame to break it up. If you are thinking of aquiring a 1.8 177bhp M42 motor lock stock and barrel, then let me know if you're serious as we would have to build a complete new motor from scratch then?
