I have been taking a dekko at the Harry Hockly website - very high quality worknaship on their project cars. (The blue Escrote with the 300BHP dry-sumped Honda S2000 engine looks like a bit of a tool).

What's the S.P. on fitting the rear flares to the compact? Are they rivetted and bonded or is there some other technique? Do the existing panels need to be joggled?

yes , you basically lose the rear arch and then tub the inner to the new arch, hockleys had done it like this, just tagging onto the original inner arch giving it some strength. the new arch sits quite high so it will be all arch and wheels!! rivetts and filler seems to be the way for holding it together

car still having the cage done, a couple more weeks then its back for christmas, in the meanwhile we've been disecting the m54 loads of junk on it but looks promising!!

What m54 motor is that? a 330??

How much do you pay for one of these harry hockleys tank guards if you don't mind me asking??

basically yes, actually out of a low miler 2002 z3 3.0 roughly a bag and a half for engine, box, rack, loom, all ancillaries, brakes, rear arms, prop. hockleys tank guard was bought with the arch kit available at www.hh-ms.com

nice work, turrets are very similar to the ones i made for my e30, although I made them come up level to the top of the arch in order to run a proper coilover and make the most of its travel

it will take a proper coilover but no point having more than you actually need, travel won't be an issue it can only move as much as the wishbone. this way it gives us the option of running conventional spring and seperate shocker depending on funds

what mods do you do to the arms where the shock mounts to take the new forces?


I am interested as id love to coil over the rear of mine... Looks easy.

rear arm doesnt need any work, it worked like that on the group A cars with metally hard spring rates and could handle big jumps, there seems to be some unproven myth that with the bolt in single sheer and a coilover its guaranteed to go bang

group A cars had modified rear arms, we'll be using 3.0 z3 rear arms which have minor strengthening, and we'll probably do some extra just to take out the chance eliment.

Looks like good work, i don't think i have ever seen such a tight cage!

We've been looking at the M54B30 engine today, and although i'm pro-vanos it has to be ditched mainly because we want it simple. Its always been our intention to fit cams so i'm not over-worried about losing power.
Rather than trying to lock up all the vanos gears we have looked at the original engine design the M50 non vanos. We did a trial build today fitting the m50 cam gear - it all fits together and now looks nice and simple. M50 cam wheels are all slotted so it will be a piece of pi55 to dial in some proper cams .

I've looked at the valve gear too, M54 Followers are used in E39 M5's so we think they will suffice our `Phase 1` engine, however the standard valve springs seem to be getting coil bound a bit early. So i've got a yanky S52 valve spring coming for us to measure, (these are the same as M5's too) apparently these address this problem, to what extent though i'm not sure.

Now all the crap is off the motor it looks smart , its certainly not lardy. It will look good polished . The crank is a sweet thing too.



It feels like an intrepid voyage of discovery and a fu<king big experiment but here goes....
