Thanks to Ieuan Robertson for sitting in, absolute star, worked well on the maps, did exactly what i wanted and we finished

Before petrol the car was mint, handling really well, and we where up to 17th overall and 3rd in class. After petrol the car seemed to change, it would not brake properly, and just wanted to understeer, so we slowed right down, and lost a lot of time. First time i really noticed this was in a yard somewhere about 10 miles after petrol, turned the car on a hairpin, car went ok, then just no front grip and went into a lot of gates that surrounded a post! Loads of people running LOL!

Finished 23rd overall and 7th semi, i was really surprised to see the result!


Got home, found the Power steering had lost its fluid, and the new engine is knocking... So,im trying to stay positive , and not give up road rallying just yet!

Have a look at the engine tomorrow (the amount of times I have driven back from road rally's thinking the car has a problem then the next day all is fine???) If not then the XE it is lol.

its deffo knocking, big end shells maybe sort it..


no xe, that is for sure, a m42 chip, the power was unreal, absolutly unreal, dont thinkt he car would have gone faster with an xe, i recon my car had 150 bhp so only 5 down on a good xe!!

i think the engine wants shells in it, so ill take the sump off and have a peek!

I want to do a stage rally but i think its going to cost a lot more, so ill stick to road rallys for now!

i'm glad the m42 felt stronger , we did wonder about the power in the old 'un.

anyway, what has caused the growl?

just my opinion, but dont just bang shells in it, strip it down, clean everything properly, open up the pump etc, get genuine gaskets and reassemble. They are a piece of pi55 to work on, so dont think it will be a headache.

the motor felt the same as the other one exactly before the water pump went!


I was driving it, and i hit a bump and knocked the exhaust, i looked under it the car, and to be honnest, the bump made the car look like it has no cat on it, but "ofcause" it has...

So with this exhaust, chip etc, when it was over 4k it went like stink! The chip i have is a e30 one, so now i have reolised that the e36 had the duel plenum inlet manifold and the brain dosnt activate it, so i piped it so it was open all the time. I know im loosing a bit of low down, but the upper gains are amazing...


At this point, there is no way ill be fitting a xe to the car, the m42 is amazing.

xe is with out doubt what my car needs, but fitting it and arsing about i just dont have time.


Ordered a full gasket set etc from c3bmw on friday and the motor is off to lawson diesels on monday.

rear end is mk2 turreted shocks. 325i E30 springs.


325i springs of e36 onthe front, NO REAR ANTI ROLL BAR. M3 front anti roll bar...


M3 top mounts swapped over from ns/os, M3 excentric bushing in front arms. M42 motor [ as of a weight issue ] billstein rally struts, and a z3 rack...


Car is perfect, its amazing, and every time i drive it, and i long so much for another Lada, i just know, this is teh car i want the lada to be
