Irish Compact

After Galway and a Sprint event in September the car was parked up and partially stripped. (Which took from October to January)
All the Rubber bushings in the rear suspension were knackered after 2 rallies and 2 sprints.
Solid bushings were purchased and fitted to the rear beam over the winter.

The bushing in the Diff was replaced with a solid one.
The Diff was solidly mounted to the floor and braced inside the car.










Please note could not get a photo of the diff bracing in our car - as the interior is dark green. This photo is from the car we copied. We purchased the solid bushings from the guy that owns this car.
Will try to get photos of our car in brighter weather.

Also the clutch – which was standard and came with the doner car – was knackered and slipping.
A new Helix Paddle clutch was fitted.

The sump was removed from the engine and the bearings replaced as a precautionary measure.



While we were shopping for the solid bushings we purchased a fibreglass wide arch kit.

Not fitted yet – too scared – might make the car look fast and we did not want to disappoint!!!!!!!!!!!





Kit comprises Front Bumper - 2 Front Wings Complete - Rear Arches and Rear Bumber.

The rear suspension arms are still rubber bushed which can now be felt in the handling (as we get more used to it).

So we have ordered a set of these, which will make the rear end more solid.








Next Event Planned is at the end of May.

Superb post thanks, it looks like you are getting it "engineered" shall we say.
i've a suggestion (you may have thought about it) - its a pity you cant put an insitu adjuster on the outboard rosejoint, to enable you to adjust the rear toe without dropping the beam bolt out. Also may be add a tube between the ends of the trailing arms.
Will you do the front arms group A style next ?

Rear arm full adjustabe along the lines of what you suggest - please read on.

Front Arms is on the list for winter 09/10 - anyone know where they can be sourced????

Got them from a man based in Armagh, Northern Ireland. His name is Gary Toner and he also rallies a compact as per pic below.
He also can manufacture the wide body kit.
Don't have his contact details on me at the mo - can pm it later if you want. He also hires out in-car camera systems on events and i think he has a website - which may have contact details - so google the name 'ALPHACAM'.
