Got it logbooked on Saturday Evening.

Took it out for its competition debut last Sunday at a sprint on a Kart Track.

Had problems with spongy brakes - either inside rear wheel lift / clutch slip - oil blowing out the breather pipe.

On final run broke joint between main shaft and diff!!!!!

Still it worked out of the box - and was quicker than our previous mount at this venue.

Rally debut on the 13th July - Sligo Stages.

Still have a few bits to do to finish - sumpguard / Spare wheel position / intercom and a few more stripes to make it look like a competition car.

Very nice

Where did you find the carbon door cards? Also like your rear spoiler too - the style I was after but couldn't find - any details? Not sure mine deserves a big rear spoiler as only a 325 but yours certainly looks great

Spongy brakes on a kart track doesn't bode well! I've manged to source some AP 4 pots as I had really scary brake fade at our last event. If using standard brakes Ferrodo DS3000 pads seem most recommended...

Lookalike carbon - Bought a 1.2m x 1.2m sheet and cut it out. Luckily where it fits to door is flat. Enough in sheet to do the doors and inside rear 1/4 panels.

Spoiler is from an M3 Saloon - slightly tweeked to fit.

Spongy brakes as a result of air in the system - even though we bled them at least 5 times beforehand. They were better at the end of the day.
We are using E36 discs / calipers front and rear. (The rears modified to fit E30)
We use the FERODO pads - have done for years - swear by them.

Now that tings are quieter - time to try to remember what we have built.

Shell
1.6 Petrol E36 Compact Shell
Stripped to a bare shell and sound deadening removed.
Seams tack welded.
Strengthen plates installed under front turrets – standard m3 plate
10 Pt OMP weld in roll cage. Extra strengthen plates added at front windscreen pillars. Extra bars added at rear x diagonal for harnesses.
Strut brace at front.
Polycarbonate windows – thermoformed – obtained from Plastics4Performance
Compact wiring loom used – unnecessary items stripped out.
M3 Clocks
Standard fuel tank – bottom coated with fibreglass for extra protection.
Braided fuel lines - internal

Interior
Dry cell battery located in navigators footwell
Sabelt Tarus Seats with Schroth 6 pt Harnesses.
Helmet net
Carbon lookalike door cards and ¼ panel
Compact dash – flocked
Cut off switch
Standard heater / fan and switches
Sabelt suede steering wheel (180mm diameter) and boss
Navigator footrest
False aluminium floor
Lifeline plumbed in extinguisher system (mechanical)
2 Handheld fire extinguishers

Engine / Transmission / Diff
Standard E36 M3 3litre engine and 5 speed gearbox.
K&N air filter
Standard engine wiring loom & ecu.
Compact subframe with M3 mounts.
Standard M3 Exhaust to rear beam mated to an impreza rear box.
E30 325i diff – input flange changed from 4 bolt to 6 bolt – standard input flange from E36 M3 diff. Standard M3 E36 propshaft – no modifications necessary.
E30 325i driveshafts.

Suspension / brakes / wheels
Front
E36 M3 evo wishbones / hubs / callipers and discs.
Selholm – Billstein coillover unit – adjustable for ride height only.
250/50 springs.

Rear
E30 325i arms
E30 325i bearing and 5 stud E30 M3 hub
E36 M3 Discs and callipers (spacer plate manufactured for fitment)
Billstein Gp4 coillover unit
150/50 springs

Braided brake pipes used throughout and fitted internally.
Hydraulic handbrake
Brake bias valve
Ferodo Pads

Wheels / Tyres
18 x 8 Revolutions (Standard fitting)
Pirelli Tyres

Sligo Stages

We got the car to the finished. We had trouble with the cut off switch - which kept cuting the car out - wired it direct at the following service.

The more serious problem we had was lack of ventilation - coupled with petrol fumes. Currently looking for a roof vent and cutting holes in the rear somewhere to get air through.

Other than that very pleased with the car - it handled well and has loads of power.
Never rallied rear wheel drive before - bit of a culture shock that. (hard to teach an old dog new tricks)

But Highly recommended

Finished 49th and 3rd In Class.

brilliant update and pictures, what made you go the e30 back end route?

You cant beat a home brewed rally car, you must be satisfied

Hello everybody - Where does the time go?

Just a quick update.

Completed Galway Stages rally last September.

Stripped car over the Winter - fitted solid bushings to the rear beam - added bracing to the rear diff and checked everything out.

Completed on Birr Stages Last Sunday - finished 50th overall and 5th Class.

Will be completing on Mayo Stages on the 8th March.

After this event will post all relevant photos - including the wide arch body kit we purchased (but we were too scared to fit yet!!!!)
