I bled it over the weekend and it seems to work very well, i won't know for sure untill i get it on the road though.......

I did a bit of tarting up over the weekend and painted my rocker cover bright white!





As i had the rocker cover off i also did the SBD modification of removing the baffle plate and cutting most of it off, apparently this stops the oil surge that xe's suffer from....

I also managed to split the fuse box and strip out all of the old bmw engine wiring loom which was actually a lot easier than i thought!

The baffle plate - is that the windage tray that sits between the sump and block?

If so Yuk recommends you remove it altogether and use the single gasket off the 8 valve iirc

I would'nt do way with that,i did that on my 8 valve and had no end of trouble with oi pouring out the top,it's designed to keep the oil in the sump wgere it needs to be.................

No it is a plate that is screwed into the inside of the cam cover that seems to run around from the crank case breather to the cam cover breathers.

Basically you get rid of the whole lot except for the bit that stops oil pouring out of the cam cover breathers....

Don't think that's a problem when using one of Yuks RWD sumps.

Yeah Yuks sump has a big plate covering most of the opening to the bowl but the manta one just has a lip around the edge of the bowl.

I spoke to sbd to completely clarify the mod, apparenty under heavy right hand corners oil can surge up the cam cover breather tube from the sump. when the oil rushes up there it goes into this section at the top of the cam cover then flowes around to the atmosphere breather and spits out of the top of the engine!

Getting rid of most of this plate alows the oil to be released onto the cams thus solving the problem

This also hopefully means i don't have to fork out for an oil catch tank because hopefully i will get away with just a breather filter.......
