Spent all bloody day doing the stupid anti roll bar, As usual when you buy something that isnt meant to fit - it ends up damn dificult making it fit. But I got there in the end and it appears to do its job. good thing with this is that there are different stiffnesses available at only 19 quid a pop. The only problem now is that the brake fitting for the calipers just hits the tip of the ARB blade a fair bit before full lock is reached. No matter what fitting I use there doesnt seem to be a way around this, so looks like I have a decent excuse to go for some 300mm discs!





Will hopefully fab up the bracket for the battery and the header tank tomorrow. After that I can send a load of bits off for blasting before I paint them

Good work I used the same roll bar in the e21 and had the same issues getting it to fit

Well its been 10 steps forward 20 back with this, The MSA have stamped their feet and due to the extensive mods to the bulhead and tunnels it falls just outside of the class 2 regs which will apply from 2012. As a result the shell is basically useless for rallying

Bit of a kick in the teeth to say the least but trying to keep positive. Stripped the shell again today, just the motor and box to take out, going to keep it rolling for ease of strorage and start again with the suspension. Will be sending off some standard struts to AVO along with new top mounts and getting them to make up some 2 way adjustables for the front.

Have sourced a clean 316 auto shell, a z3 steering rack, safety devices cage and a couple of 4.4 diffs locally so this will be the next victim. Although it will be a much more basic spec, it will get a pair of turrets grafted into the rear and the rear bulkhead moved forward to sit the escort tank more in the middle of the car.

In a way im glad as It was becoming a bit of a slog working on this, especially when its been dragging on for well over a year. New car should be finished much sooner considering i have 99% of the parts!

That's very bad news after all the work youve put in but I did comment about this on page 8!

I've tried to get my engine as far back as possible without serious bulkhead mods as mine will have to be MSA logbooked as a new car and the recent regs are dead against bulkhead modifications. I assume yours is already logbooked so you can get away with it? My engine cam cover is maybe 3mm away from the bulkhead, once I remove it I'll take a small hammer to the offending area and create a little more clearance to allow easy removal of the cover!

I know, the only reason I carried on was after reassurance from scrutineers over here that it would be fine, but even if I had their word in writing it wouldnt help me. I believed them because the car was logbooked with some bulkhead mods Ironically I'm one of the lucky ones! locally, ive heard of various people over here have been done over by this and only found out after they go for logbooking.

If I hadnt cut the battery box out and taken 10cm less out of the left hand side, i'd be in the clear. Owel, you live and learn I suppose

i think thats the best idea! at least you can fit the biggest spoilers you can get your mitts on, and not get moaned at like everyone in rallying.

Bummer - gutted for you.

If you could get it logbooked (some scrutes aren't too au fait with rallying regs), would that be the end of the issue, or could eligibility be questioned at a later date?...... Do 'grandad rights' apply to cars with this level of bulkhead/chassis modifications?

That was an option, but the panels would have to have factory pressings and holes, then the problem is the exhaust tunnels and gearbox tunnel. Basically more work than its worth. I could deffinately get it logbooked, but then any scrutineer could withdraw the logbook if they had issues.

I'l still use it it as a hillclimb car I think, will put a BMW V8 in and massive spoiler, but that can wait until the next shell is finished
