Here's the schematic of the cage in my Evo:



I've heard that the new crop of WRC cars (2009) have incorporated several newer cage design changes, so if you're able to snap some pictures, I'd love to see them!

Talked with my cage builder and it looks like we're going to schedule the cage build for the 2nd half of February. So, before that I'll need to figure out exactly what I'm doing for suspension and rear diff before then, as both of these elements may dictate where the cage ties in at the back of the car.

The liquid nitrogen did a great job of removing the undercoating, but the paint is left in place. Before seam welding can take place, we need to grind the paint off, so the welds will be clean. Here's Mark & Grant working with the grinders. We found using a wire wheel on one, and a flap wheel on the other made the job go quickest. Me...I got the scraper.

And actually it was the fault in the welder that ended up requiring us to clean the paint as a bad connection was making the arc unreliable. The primer that is exposed is weld through primer so you simply scrape the seam to get any steel to create your arc and go. I did my whole car on Saturday in about half the time the E36 took since I didn't have the two part process of cleaning seam then welding.

Dave's busy prepping his Pike's Peak Evo right now, but may be running in the June round of the Global Rallycross in the Compact. Having some troubles getting dampers right in the rear but that'll probably be resolved soon. First stage rally coming soon...
