Z3 as a tarmac rally car

I am wanting to get back into rallying & would prefer something RWD, my last cars were Escorts but the cost of going down that route now is eyewatering! Logical solution looks to be to go down the Compact route using either a 2.8 or M3 power unit, in an ideal world I would like to buy a complete or part built car, however: Just stood outside talking to someone about doing tarmac events & he pointed to the Z3 2.8 sitting on my drive & said why don't you use that? Can't say I'd thought about that option
I guess it is worth peanuts & does have a nice hardtop fitted! Just been looking at the spec's. seems the Z3 is 195mm shorter o/a, 250mm shorter w/b & kerb weight is about 60KG more than a 318ti (however that's the Z3 with a 2.8 lump & theres at least 40Kg of electric sunroof included.
Tell me if this is a stupid idea

great idea I think, there was a 'clownshoe' m roadster used as a 0 car on our last outing in Belgium, amongst probably at least a dozen other bmw's inc a 12v triple carb powered e30m3 and a few 4 door e36 325's

Great idea, good engine and box, back suspension is good to go and arches are wide enough!!

Gosh, I was expecting everyone to fall about laughing Perhaps it's actually worth thinking about!
Or would it make a good donor car to build into a Compact?

There is a chap from Grimsby who uses one and it goes well. He was at Cadwell with last time we were there.
