Hi!

My name is Larry and i´m Spanish.

I´m building a E36 compact tarmac rally car, i hope you like the project.

The plan is running the stock m42 engine, but next season we want to put a turbo (small turbo) and convert it on a "point and shot" car.

The car will have gaz gold coilovers and adjustable mounts (ordered this week, anyone know how many time I have to wait?)

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a good start you have made already. We ran the stock M42 engine for a number of years without any problems so you hopefully should be OK.

Tomorrow will upload pics of the m20b20 (lightest of all) flywheel conversion to my m42. I have modified the flywheel to accept the m42 ring gear, i think this is easier than swap the pinion gear.

But the scale didn´t have good news. Although the m20b20 flywheel weights 6.2kg and the stock dualmass weights 10.2kg, the real difference is not that big, because the pressure plate of the m20 weights a little more than the m42 unit, in the region of 1kg.

So the real difference is "only" 3kg. Anyway, i think the momentum (what really matters), will be A LOT less with the new FW.

This weekend I did a protection frame for the radiator, the plan is make a long sumpguard from the radiator frame to the chassis, attached to the rear cross bar.

Good progress! How did you go about attaching the blanking panels to the dash?

The small blanking panels were done with many accuracy, so they sits on the edge of the dash holes and glued it with some drops of black sikaflex.

And the central panel its made of alloy and have 2 square protrusions on the upper edge. This protrusions come into 2 grooves i cut in th dashboard and in the lower side it have 2 bolts and nuts to secure it. Sorry for my english but its difficult to explain it.

Very good quality kit. Will run 600/275 spring rates, with STD ARBs, and the gaz man tell me they are valved to suit tarmac rally stages.

I have a medium case 4,45 LSD diff too, hope it get enough grip on the rear with the 275lbs springs.

Interested in your steering multiplier and how it works, have you used these before?

Looks great. Love the colour.

What ratio is the steering multiplier? Never heard of one before, seems like a decent route to a quick rack.

Yes I used it on a 205 gti i had without PAS. Was very hard to fit it between clutch and brake pedals, but it worth the effort.

In the BMW is far more easy to do, because is a lot more room and the steering column is very long.

The ratio is 2:1, so now I have aprox 1.8 turns lock to lock.

In the pug was soooo great, I felt like I can do anything with the car without going crazy with the steering wheel.

And in the BMW, not tried.....but I think in rallying is a must.

A mate of mine had one fitted to his Cossie.
